It is never too late to learn! The WAVES Swim School conducts friendly and relaxed classes for all ages and all levels. Our Adult Swim Program offers a variety of group class options with distinct levels to help cater for your ability. The program aims to improve your swimming, overall fitness, health, and wellbeing in a friendly, fun and social environment.

Lessons will introduce you to a range of new skills for you to achieve increased safety, efficiency, and confidence in the water. We have classes to accommodate all abilities; whether you are a non-swimmer, looking to improve technique and fitness, or want to commit to a swim training regime. All levels of our Adult Program enable you to build stronger habits for efficient swimming.

Although our program is flexible, we encourage commitment and persistence for you to improve your swimming and water safety skills.

Duration: 30–45-minute class depending on numbers in the class.

Booking Information

  • You are able to book into a class 7 days in advance.
  • Classes are flexible, this means you are not committing to an ongoing enrolment.
  • Please be courteous of others and withdraw from the class if you are unable to attend. You will be required to cancel 24 hours in advance. if you cancel within the withdrawal timeframe class fee will be credited to your profile for another class.
  • You are able to enter 30 minutes prior to the class and stay back after to practice for as long as you like. 
  • It is your responsibility to disclose any medical conditions or injuries prior to you lesson in the questionnaire and to your instructor.

How to withdraw from a class

  1. Log into your account 
  2. Select attendee you wish to withdraw.
  3. navigate to schedule. 
  4. Select 'switch to list view'
  5. Select actions.
  6. select withdraw from the dropdown menu.
  7. select a reason for cancelling from the drop-down menu and add any additional comments required.
  8. Select withdraw to process and confirm withdrawal.

 

 

Levels

Water Safety and Awareness Program

This program is designed to develop the foundations of how to move in and around the water and increase your confidence in an aquatic environment. You will enrol into a once-a-week program for a 5-week block that progressively builds on the skills learnt from the week prior. Some of the skills you will acquire during the sessions are;

  • Move through the water more efficiently.
  • Develop comfortable breath control.
  • Understand buoyancy, submersion and treading water.
  • Improve your confidence to save or help someone in danger.

 

Beginner

Designed for a range of beginners from a complete non-swimmer to a swimmer wishing to develop basic freestyle with correct breathing techniques. This class level provides you with the fundamentals of water comfort, safety, and survival skills. An introduction to freestyle and skills on your back including floating, kicking and coordinated movement. Class is taught in the indoor heated program pool (maximum distance of 17m) with a water depth of 1.25m.

Development

Further develop your freestyle and backstroke with drills that work on mastering your breathing and kicking techniques over 25-50 metres at a time. Progressing towards comfortable backstroke and an introduction breaststroke and butterfly kicking. The drills and skills provided in this class allows you to work towards improving your lap swimming capabilities. Class is taught in the indoor heated 25m pool with a water depth of 90cm – 1.10m.

Correction

Work on your technique and fitness. We assist with individually refining all 4 strokes in a squads-based environment using basic drills. You will be introduced to endurance and pace sets using the pace clock. Class is taught in either the indoor heated 25m pool with a water depth of 90cm – 1.10m or the outdoor 25m pool with a depth of 1.25m - 1.5m.

‘FIT’ You Squads

Our fitness squads program that caters for all your individual fitness needs, offering high intensity sessions working on endurance, speed, efficiency, and overall fitness. The sessions allow for 60 minutes of swimming. We highly recommend allowing 10-15 minutes either side for stretching, prehabilitation, training program and individual goal discussion.

 

Levels

Bronze

Our 'FIT' You Bronze Squad offers an opportunity for you to maintain or further your swimming fitness, health and wellness as well as developing stroke efficiency. Sessions are predominantly freestyle focused with the option to work on other forms. Swimmers attending this squad will need to have the ability to work 2:00 - 2:30 per 100m freestyle.

  • Swimmers attending these sessions should be able to swim 10 x 100 freestyle on 2:00 - 2:30 intervals.
  • Predominantly freestyle with some form strokes and drills included for training diversity and strength.
  • Sessions will include the use of paddles, pull buoy and/or band, fins and a kickboard. Please bring your own gear if you wish to use any in your sessions.
  • There are no minimum training sessions required, however we do recommend doing 2-3 sessions per week.
  • Minimum age is 16 years old. Swimmers aged 14-15 can attend with a parent or guardian over the age of 18.

Silver

Our 'FIT' You Silver Squad offers high-intensity sessions to maintain and improve swimming fitness and stroke efficiency - whether you are a competitive masters swimming, or training purely for individual fitness, health and wellness. Sessions are predominantly freestyle focused with some work on other forms and skills. Swimmers attending this squad will need to have the ability to work on a cycle of 1:30 - 2:00 per 100m freestyle.

  • Swimmers attending these sessions should be able to swim 20 x 100 freestyle on 1:30 - 2:00 intervals.
  • Predominantly freestyle with endurance and speed sets, some form strokes and drills included for training diversity and strength.
  • Sessions will include the use of paddles, pull buoy and/or band, fins and a kickboard. Please bring your own gear if you wish to use any in your sessions.
  • There are no minimum training sessions required, however we do recommend doing 3-4 sessions per week.
  • Minimum age is 18 years old.

'FIT' You TRI

Our 'FIT' You Triathlon Squad offers triathlon, surf and open-water specific skills and stroke development, with a focus on endurance and efficiency to suit the physical demands of triathlon swimming. Sessions are freestyle focused with minimal work on other forms. The 'FIT' You Triathlon Squad will cater for all levels of proficiency, from beginners through to top age group triathletes. Swimmers attending this squad will be split into two groups: Group 1 will need to have the ability to work on cycles of under 1:45 per 100m freestyle. Group 2 will need to have the ability to work on cycles of 1:50 - 2:30 per 100m freestyle.

  • Swimmers attending these sessions should be able to swim:
    • In Group 1: 15 x 100 freestyle on <1:45 intervals.
    • In Group 2: 5 x 100 freestyle on 1:50 - 2:30 intervals.
  • Freestyle endurance and speed sessions, with drills and skills specific to triathlon, surf and open-water swimming.
  • Sessions will include the use of paddles, pull buoy and/or band, and fins. Please bring your own gear if you wish to use any in your sessions.
  • There are no minimum training sessions required, however, we do recommend doing 2-4 sessions per week.
  • Minimum age is 16 years old.
